Larkspur Design works on the ancestral homeland of the Penobscot Nation, Passamaquoddy Tribe, Houlton Band of Maliseet, and Aroostook Band of Micmac, as well as the Abenaki people, known collectively as the Wabanaki, or People of the Dawn. We thank them for their stewardship of this place, and we support their inherent sovereignty. We acknowledge that we have more work to do to fully honor and respect their relationships to these lands.
The Wabanaki tribes have a different, more restrictive status than all 574 other federally recognized tribes in the United States. There is currently legislation, LD 1626, in Augusta which would remedy much of what ails the tribes in Maine.
